Mason Valley Guide - Nevada's Premier Outfitter info@masonvalleyguide.com

How long have you been in business? Mason Valley Guide Service was originally established in 1981.  Our team is well-seasoned and very knowledgeable about hunting in Northern Nevada.

Waterfowl  Hunting

What size groups do you hunt? We believe four hunters is an ideal group size, but all of our locations will handle up to six in a group. Groups with at least four hunters will be hunted as a group by themselves. Parties with two hunters will be placed with another small party to complete a group.

When is the Nevada Waterfowl Season?
Dates for the 2006 / 2007 season                                                                    Ducks: October 14th thru January 27th
Geese: October 21st thru January 28th

When is the best time to come for Waterfowl? With our close proximity to the Mason Valley National Wildlife Refuge we have a resident population of Canadian Honkers, Mallards, and Gadwalls.  Our "visitors" begin to arrive in early November.  November and December dates usually provide for more species of ducks, including mallards, gadwall and green wing teal.  Later in the season the ducks migrate further south.   Mid November through mid January provide excellent opportunities for Canadian Geese.  We offer hunts on private leased land throughout Northern Nevada.

What equipment should I bring for waterfowl?

• Valid Nevada hunting license with State and Federal waterfowl stamps is required for all waterfowl hunts.

• Non-toxic shotgun shells…I use 3 1/2” steel BB’s.  Brown camo clothing, thermals, hand warmers, coveralls, and a camera to capture the hunt on film.

• For duck hunts you will also need waders, rain gear, personal snacks and beverages (non-alcoholic) and non-toxic shells 3's or 4's.

Do you hunt everyday of season?  No, by limiting the number of days we hunt each week, it reduces the amount of pressure on the birds, and allows them time to acclimate to their surroundings.  We find this keeps the birds in the area longer.

How much walking is involved?    The majority of the ranches we hunt allow us close access to the fields.  This limits the amount of walking involved.  Special accommodations can be made for hunters with physical limitations.

What is your dog policy?  We welcome the use of retrievers, but request notification at the time of booking.

Do you guarantee Birds?  No, mother nature and your shooting ability play important roles in hunting. However, our guides scout daily to ensure the fields we hunt offer the best opportunity for success.  We work very hard to provide you with the opportunity to bag your birds and build memories.

Pheasant Hunting

Do you have a special program for corporate or large groups? Yes, with as few as 12 guided hunters per day, corporations and large groups can lease all of our facilities and land for a private hunt.

Can you coordinate transportation, lodging and catering for corporate groups?  Yes,  please contact us with the number of people in your party and we can tailor a package to meet your specific needs.

What size groups do you hunt? Our upland hunts are customized to each group.  A minimum of four hunters is required.  For Corporate hunts we can accomodate up to 100 hunters per party.

Do I need to purchase a hunting license?  No, a Nevada game preserve hunting permit will be provided to you upon arrival to the field.

What equipment should I bring for upland game bird hunting?  Your favorite shotgun, shotgun shells 6's or 7 1/2's, Blaze Orange vest and hat, comfortable boots, and a camera to capture the hunt on film.

Big Game Hunting

How are tags for big game issued in Nevada?  Nevada's big game hunts are conducted by a random draw process.  Non resident guided hunt applications are generally available in early February and due back by late February.  General Hunt applications are generally available mid March and are due back by mid April.

What is the cost for Nevada hunting licenses and big game tags?
Nonresident Regular Hunting License $142

Deer Tag - Nonresident $240

Restricted Deer Tag (Guided)- Nonresident $300

Elk Tag - Nonresident $1200

Hunters who do not draw tags will receive full refunds, excluding the non-refundable application fees.

What size groups do you hunt for Big Game?  Our hunts are guided on the basis of one hunter per guide.  If you have an additional person in your party and would like to hunt two hunters with one guide special arrangements can be made.

How do we get to the hunting area?  Transportation to the hunting area is provided by Mason Valley Guide service by four wheel drive or ATV.  All hunts are conducted on foot.
